an exploration of sounds

samples, rhythms, and beats

duke saru

I started making hip-hop instrumentals in 2014 because my brother and friend at the time would make music, and I always had ideas for them. I finally came around to learning FL Studio and I haven’t looked back since.

The “duke saru” name came about after a few years of exploring different names. I landed on duke saru because monkeys are my favorite animals. “saru” translates to monkey in Japanese, and “duke” is a play on the word king.

I started making beats in my bedroom and dorm room in College and have taught myself all the software to make music. I never considered myself too much of a musician, but growing up, I played guitar, violin, and always loved listening to electronic music and hiphop. I think the combination of modern music with the classic education of classic instruments, is what inspired me to finally start making my own music with the modern twist and modern musical elements.
